Johimbe is a tree native to West Africa. The bark is used as a supplement for bodybuilding and to enhance male sexual performance.[citation needed]
Medicinal effects
It contains the chemical yohimbine, which is being studied in the treatment of sexual dysfunction.[citation needed] Johimbe may interact with certain drugs used to treat depression, high blood pressure, and high blood sugar.
Synonym
- The scientific name is Pausinystalia johimbe K.Schum., or Pausinystalia trillesii Beilleym, or Pausinystalia zenkeri W.Brandt. Also called Pierre ex Beille or yohimbe.
