Johann Baptist Scheffer

Johann Baptist Scheffer, painter and etcher, born at Cassel in 1773, a pupil of Tischbein, went early to the Netherlands, where at Dordrecht he married Cornelia Lamme, daughter of Arie Lamme, and became the father of Ary and Hendrik Scheffer. He produced several large historical works, and some portraits; among the latter that of King Louis of Holland. He died at Amsterdam in 1809.
