Joe Daniher (born 4 March 1994) is a professional Australian rules footballer, currently playing with the Essendon Football Club in the Australian Football League.

Early life

Joe Daniher is the son of former fullback Anthony Daniher, who played 115 games for Sydney and 118 games for Essendon in the Australian Football League.

Daniher previously played as an under-18 player for the Calder Cannons. He was selected in the 2012 under-18 All-Australian team and is a graduate of the Australian Institute of Sport-AFL Academy.[1]

AFL career

Daniher signed with Essendon under the father-son rule and was officially drafted by Essendon with pick ten in the first round of the 2012 national draft.[1] He wears the number six jumper, the same number previously worn by his father.[2] Daniher was also eligible to be drafted by Sydney, but chose to join Essendon, where his brother Darcy was a team member at the time.[3]

Daniher made his AFL debut on June 7, 2013 in Essendon's round 11 match against Carlton.[4] In his second game (round 12 against Gold Coast), Daniher was named among Essendon's best players, kicking his first AFL goal and scoring a total of three goals in the match.[5]
