Jiro Wang (traditional Chinese: 汪東城; simplified Chinese: 汪东城; pinyin: Wāng Dōngchéng; Wade–Giles: Wang Tung-Ch'eng; born August 24, 1981) is a Taiwanese actor and singer, who started his career as a model. Wang is a member of Taiwanese Mandopop vocal quartet boy band Fahrenheit.
Biography
Jiro Wang was born August 24, 1981, in Taiwan. He graduated at Fu Shin Trade and Arts College with a degree in Advertising Design. After his graduation, he dedicated his life towards the entertainment business. He was first asked to join the entertainment business because he showed his looks at a competition. BMG, the label that signed him, planned to package him with Jay Chou and Jordan Chan to form a boy band called 3J, but, because of 9/11, BMG's stocks crashed and the 3J plan was scrapped.[1] Jiro then decided to continue his career in the industry by working backstage, mainly in charge of fashion designing and other designing necessities, as well as commercial modeling. He was approached again around 2004, when his acting career began.
He speaks fluent Taiwanese and Mandarin and understands conversational English.
He used to play in an underground band named Karma as the lead singer. They have performed a song called "人間逃亡記" (Rénjiān táowáng jì) with lyrics composed by Jiro. After that, the band changed the name to Dong Cheng Wei (東城衛) without changing the members in the band. The band never received much popularity until Jiro joined Fahrenheit.
When he was 18, Jiro's father died, leaving behind debts for him and his mother to pay off. This forced him to enter the commercial and modeling industry. The commercials he has appeared in include one for 蒙牛酸酸乳 Mengniu (a yogurt brand)[2] as part of Fahrenheit. Fahrenheit features in ‘酸甜’ (Suan Tian) (among other songs) with the Taiwanese girl group S.H.E. Jiro will start acting in a new horror movie The Purple House, director Hang-Sang Poon (who directed A Chinese Odyssey, Huo Yuanjia, CJ7, Ip Man) and special effects by Johnny (who worked for Batman 1-2, Troy) from 20 March. His co actress will be Dong Li Ya (Yaya).
Career
Acting career
Wang is known as the male lead in the Taiwanese drama KO One (終極一班) (in which he plays the character Da Dong, from where he got his nickname as it is quite similar to his real name, Wang Dong Cheng) and its sequel The X-Family, as Ah Jin in It Started With a Kiss and its sequel They Kiss Again, as Jin Xiu Yi in the live-action Taiwanese drama, Hana-Kimi (花樣少年少女), as Mars in ToGetHer (愛就宅一起), as Mi Qi Lin in Rolling Love (翻滾吧!蛋炒飯) and Shi Lang in Momo Love (桃花小妹).
On 3 May 2011, it was announced that Wang has replaced Wu Chun as male lead, "Night Tenjo", in a live-action adaptation of Japanese manga series Absolute Boyfriend, with Korean actress Ku Hye-sun as "Riiko Izawa".[3]
Music career
Wang was the first member to join Fahrenheit. He is the baritenor vocalist of the group. He is the one that usually has the rap part in most of the songs due to his fluency in the language. His publicized temperature is that of hot (热; rè) summer, at 95 fahrenheit.
Wang released his first solo album What Are You Waiting For (Chinese: 你在等什麼) on 24 August 2012, which was his birthday, by HIM International Music
