Jhon Alexander Pírez Araújo (born 20 February 1993) is a Uruguayan footballer who plays for CD Leganés on loan from Chelsea as a striker.
Career
Pírez began his career on Defensor Sporting's youth categories. On 4 August 2008 he traveled to England to try out for Chelsea F.C.. He then played friendlies with the Chelsea youth squad, and had some impressive performances, which granted him a scholarship deal with the club.[2] However, due to FIFA regulations, the player was not allowed to play in England before his eighteenth birthday. Pírez then returned to Defensor, on a loan contract.[3]
In 2010 summer he was promoted to Defensor's first team, but due to appendicitis, he missed half of the season. On 5 February 2011, he made his professional debut, against River Plate. He replaced David Texeira in the 76th minute, and scored the last goal of the match, in the dying minutes of the match.[4] He made his second appearance on 17 April, against Fénix.[5] He suffered a knee injury in May.[6]
On 9 July 2012, Pírez joined CE Sabadell FC in a loan deal until the end of August.[7] After the trial with Sabadell, he was loaned out to CD Leganés, in a season-long deal.[8]
On 10 August 2013, Pírez returned to CD Leganés on loan for the duration of the 2013/14 season.[9]
International career
He has been capped by the Uruguay national under-20 football team for the preliminary squad for the 2011 South American Youth Championship.
