Jha is a surname of India and Nepal, originating from the Mithila. Jhas are 1.12% of the population of Nepal and 0.1% of the population of India.[citation needed]
Jhas are Maithil Brahmins (Brāhamaṇas is the Sanskrit term), a community of highly cohesive, traditional Brahmins who form part of ancient Vedic Brahmins. They are Maithili speakers. The Mathili language and Jha are mentioned in the constitution of Nepal.[citation needed]
