The Jewish Student Union, or JSU is an organization run by the Orthodox Union's youth group, NCSY. Created in 2002 by Rabbi Steven Burg and now run via Orthodox Union employees, JSU attempts to create Jewish culture clubs in public schools across the country.

Originally created as a separate non-profit entity from NCSY in order to serve a broader spectrum of Jewish teens, the executive and lay-leadership of JSU in 2012 felt they could no longer have informal or formal connections to NCSY or any particular stream of Judaism. In July of 2012, they renamed the 501c3 organization "the Jewish Student Connection." [1]Subsequently, clubs bearing the "JSU" or "Jewish Student Union" name are run by Orthodox Union employees.[2]

JSU clubs are aimed at educating youth in public schools about the Jewish culture, heritage, and religion. The mission of Jewish Student Union is "to do something Jewish - that's it!" [3] JSU currently has clubs throughout Canada and scattered throughout the United States.

Partners

JSU partners with a variety of Jewish organizations to provide programming. JSU receives funding, including donations of in-kind support, predominantly from the Orthodox Union, and private foundations.
