Playing career

Juniors

As a member of the Ottawa 67's, Van Hoof was a member of the team that won the CHL's Memorial Cup in 1999. During the 1998-99 offseason, Van Hoof was drafted by the Pittsburgh Penguins in the 2nd round, 57th overall of the 1999 NHL Entry Draft. Van Hoof attended Pittsburgh Penguins training camp in 2000, but was returned to the 67's in September 2000. Van Hoof would also win the OHL Championship in 2001. In June 2001, Van Hoof was notified by the Pittsburgh Penguins that they would not be signing him and that he would be eligible to return to the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.[1] He was drafted late in the 7th round, going 222nd overall to the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Professional

From 2001 until 2006, Van Hoof primarily played in the ECHL as a member of the Pensacola Ice Pilots and the Johnstown Chiefs, who were both ECHL affiliates of the Tampa Bay Lightning. Van Hoof was traded from the Johnstown Chiefs to the Columbia Inferno on March 20, 2005[2] for future considerations.[3] Van Hoof would spend one season with the Dayton Bombers before leaving the ECHL.

Van Hoof signed with HC Fassa for the 2006-07 Serie A season. He returned to the CHL for one season, and skated with the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the Central Hockey League. Van Hoof returned to Italy to play for HC Fassa in 2008-09.

Van Hoof spent the 2009-2010 season with High1 of the Asia League. Despite putting up a career high in assists (32) and points (36), High1 announced after the completion of the season that they would not be bringing Van Hoof back for the 2010-11 season.[4]

On November 19, 2010, Van Hoof was waived by the Akwesasne Warriors of the Federal Hockey League.[5] He was re-signed by the team on December 9, 2010.[6]

On 19 January 2011 he signed for Guildford Flames in the English Premier League, however only lasted 21 days before swapping Guildford and the EPL for Nottingham Panthers in the Elite League.[citation needed]
