Jelka van Houten is a Dutch actress of film, stage, and television. She has been nominated for a Gouden Notekraker;[1] the judges who nominated her have said that "her surprising début holds a lot in store for the future".[2] Van Houten also received praise for her stage debut[3] as Olga in the musical[4] Turks Fruit,[5] for which she won a Johnny Kraaijkamp Musical Award.[6]

Her upcoming projects include the film Zomerhitte and the play Seksual Perversity, at the Theatre de Voorveghter.[7]

She is also the sister of fellow actress Carice van Houten.

Early life

Van Houten was born to Margje Stasse and the writer and broadcaster Theodore van Houten on the first of September, 1978 in Culemborg, Gelderland, Netherlands. She later studied production design at the Netherlands Film and Television Academy, and, whilst there, made her film debut, as an obsessed killer, in Liefje.
