Jean-Pierre Blais

Jean-Pierre Blais (born c.1960) is the current Chairman of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission, effective June 18, 2012.

Blais's parents were an accountant and a schoolteacher. He has one sister. His first language was French, but he had to learn English from a young age because his family moved to Toronto. He returned to Montreal and went to Loyola High School.[1]

Blais is a career public servant who has also worked for the Treasury Board Secretariat as Assistant Secretary of the Government Operations Sector, Assistant Deputy Minister of Cultural Affairs as well as Assistant Deputy Minister of International and Intergovernmental Affairs at the Department of Canadian Heritage and the CRTC as well as Executive Director of Broadcasting.[2] He graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Civil Law and a Bachelor of Common Law, and then achieved a Master of Laws with a focus in copyright, international trade, film and television policy from the University of Melbourne in Australia. He is a member of the Quebec Bar Association and the Law Society of Upper Canada.[3]
