George Jay Gogue (born 1947) has been the President of Auburn University since 2007.[1][2]

Biography

Jay Gogue was born in Waycross, Georgia.[1][3][4] He graduated from Auburn University with a bachelor's degree in 1969, and a Master's degree in 1971.[1][2][3][4] In 1973, he received a PhD in horticulture from Michigan State University.[1][2][3][4]

From 1973 to 1976, he worked for the National Park Service.[1][2] He also worked as a U.S. army reserve officer.[4] In 1986, he was appointed as Associate Director of the Office of University Research at Clemson University in South Carolina.[1][3] He also served as Vice-President for Research and Vice-President/Vice-Provost for Agriculture and Natural Resources at Clemson from 1988 to 1995.[1][2][3][4] From 1995 to 2000, he served as Provost of Utah State University.[1][2][3][4] He served as President of New Mexico State University from 2000 to 2003.[1][2][3][4] He also served as chancellor of the University of Houston System and president of the University of Houston from 2003 to 2007.[1] Since 2007, he has served as President of Auburn University.[1][2]

He is a member of Phi Kappa Phi and Golden Key honor societies, Sigma Chi Fraternity, Sigma Xi and Scabbard and Blade.[1][2] He has served as an accreditation reviewer for the Pacific Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges.[1][4] He is also a Board member of the Natural Resources Ecology Section of the National Association of State Universities and Land Grant Colleges.[2][4] He serves on the policy committee of the Oak Ridge Associated Universities and is a technical reviewer for the National Science Foundation.[2] He is also a certified accreditation reviewer for the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges, Commission on Colleges.[2]
