Jerame 'Jay' Clough was a candidate for State Legislature in Washington's 8th legislative district for the 2012 election.[1] Clough was also the Democratic nominee for congress in 2010 for Washington State's 4th congressional district.[2]
Early life and education
Jay Clough was born in Richland, Washington and raised in the Tri-cities area of Washington State. After graduating from Kennewick High School, Clough enlisted in the United States Marines. As a member of the Light Armored Reconnaissance Infantry he earned the rank of Corporal before receiving an honorable discharge in 1999.
After Clough's exit from active military service he attended Central Washington University with help from the G.I. Bill. He then took the opportunity to study abroad at Peking University in Beijing, China and Ewha University in Seoul, South Korea.[3]
Political Views
Jay Clough stands firmly on the side of the entire Bill of Rights, including the Second Amendment. Clough has called himself a "Central Washington Democrat", meaning that he stands for the rights of gun owners, and for clean nuclear power.[4]
Clough has strongly voiced his support for Social Security and Medicare. Clough believes that these programs should be strengthened rather than cut or eliminated.[3]
Clough believes that hydroelectric power is economically important to the agricultural community of Washington state, this helps Washington stay one of the only energy exporting states.[2]
To create jobs in his district, Jay Clough has proposed bringing "green" energy industry jobs to Central Washington. "I think it's great that we have windmills dotting our landscape, but why should we be buying them from China or Europe?" Clough questioned. "We should be building them right here."[5]
