In 2007 Jangheung was designated as a slow city. It was the first slow city designation in Asia.

Spot for filming

Festival (1996) was filmed in Jangheung county by director Im Kwon-taek.[1] The film brings to the viewer very traditional aspects of Korean culture, shot amid the beautiful natural scenery of the surrounding countryside.

Eulalia

Jangheung's Cheonkwan Mt. is famous for its beautiful scenery featuring eulalias. The plants reach full height around mid-September and continue to keep their beauty into October.[2]

Special products

The county is famous for its production of the pyogo mushroom(표고버섯). This renowned mushroom is raised without chemical treatment and is cultivated on uncontaminated land.[3] Its reputation is consistent with current trends toward organically-raised produce, accounting for the mushroom's fame throughout Korea.[4]

From strawberries to herbs, eco-friendly cultivation methods are used county-wide to raise crops used in Korean medicine. Jangheung county received an official award in 2006 for growing the region's best high-quality crops.[5]
