Jangaon is a town, revenue divisional headquarters, biggest town after warangal and a Municipality in Warangal district in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is about 85 kilometres from Hyderabad.It lies on the National Highway 202 and State Highway 9(Suryapet-Siddipet) .Jangaon is spread over an area of 11.4 km² and divided into 29 municipal wards as second grade municipality. There are 30 notified slum areas. Apart from the city population, it has a floating population of approximately 40,000 from the neighbouring villages daily.
Geography
Jangaon is located at 17°43′N 79°11′E / 17.72°N 79.18°E.[1] It has an average elevation of 345 metres (1,132 ft).
History
The name Jangaon evolved from "jain gaon" which means village of Jains, a religion of India. Kolanpak (kulpak) in the Nalgonda district which is about 20 km from Jangaon is a famous pilgrimage center for Jain people and it has much historical background.
When the Jain religion dominated in India, most of the tourists from different places of India visited Kulpak. At that time most of the Jains settled in Jangaon, which was called Jaingaon at that time. Things changed from time to time and people started calling it "Jangaon".
Demographics
As India census,[2] Jangaon had a population of 58,270. Males constitute 50% of the population and females 50%. Jangaon has an average literacy rate of 70%, higher than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 79%, and female literacy is 59%. In Jangaon, 12% of the population is under 6 years of age. .
Places of interest
- Jeedikal is a holy place where devotees worship Shri Rama, Laxmana, Sita and Hanuman. Devotees believe Shri Ram passed through Jeedikal in search of Golden Deer (Mareecha). Jeedikal Jatara is a biennial event. People from all over Telangana region visit this temple to attend the holy events.
- Kolanupaka was the second capital of the Kalyani Chalukyas during the 11th Century AD. During this period the village was the center of the Jains as well as the Saivites. According to literary evidence, it is the birthplace of 'Renukacharya', the great 'Veera Saiva' saint, believed to be born from the 'Svayambaghu Linga' at this village and absorbed into it after preaching Veera Saivam. The place lost its glory after it changed hands from Chalukyas to Cholas and later to Kakatiyas. Besides the Jain temple, other temples at Kulpak are the Shree Veeranarayan temple, and the Shree Someshwara temple.
- Pembarthi, located 6 km from Jangaon, is world famous for brass artifacts. The craftsmen at Pembarthi follow the method of embossing on brass and copper sheets. All the buses going to Hyderabad pass through Pembarthi.
- Komaravelli is a holy place where devotees worship Komaravelli Mallanna Swamy. Komaravelli is situated a little less than 10 km from Siddipet while going from Hyderabad/Secundrabad. There is frequent bus service from Jangaon.
- Yadagirigutta is a popular Hindu temple of Narasimha Swamy situated on a hillock, located about 35 km from Jangaon.
- Champak hills is good place to visit. Panoramic view of the picturesque green hills attracts visitors around this region. There is an Aurobindo ashram over one of the hills. The government is proposing an IT park here and it is in very initial stages.[3]
- Banapuram has an old Hanuman temple, temple of Lord Venkateshwara and Ayyappa . At the time of Bathukamma festival ladies of Jangaon play bathukamma here .
- Shahpura was the site of a fort constructed by Papadu, who fought against Doras of the area. He built a fort in the village. Former DGP Pervaram Ramulu, his famous Telugu scholar brother Pervaram Jagannadham, and AP's Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Laxmaiah are from this village.Famous leader of TRS party in jangaon constituency Bakka nagaraju yadav is also from this village.
- Sri Someswara Laxminarasimha Swamy Temple Palakurthi
It is located at a distance of 34 km from Jangoan on a hillock in the out skirts of Palakurthi Mandal head quarters. It is also the birthplace of famous poet "Palakurthi Somanadha Kavi" of 12 the century. His samadhi can be seen here. This historic temple is dedicated to Lord Siva and Vishnu who incarnated in two adjacent caves at a height of 120 meters on the hillock. The 'Pradakshina Path' encircling the two caves is quite natural. There is a dilapidated 'Surya' Temple and Koneru can also be witnessed at this place. This place once flourished which the adherents of 'Veera Saiva' sect of Hinduism has lost prominence in course of time presently it is a famous pilgrimage centre in warangal district. Pilgrims mostly from Karnataka and Maharashtra. Mainly the Veera Saivas will certainly make a visit once in year to have the blessings of presiding deities and Somanadhakavi.
- Potana (Telugu: బమ్మెర పోతన) (1450–1510) was an Indian Telugu poet best known for his translation of the "Bhagavata Purana from Sanskrit to Telugu". He was a Telugu and Sanskrit Scholar.His work "Andhra Maha Bhaagavatamu"", is popularly called as ""Potana Bhagavatam in Telugu""

Jangaon is well connected with rail and road. National highway 202, and state highway 16 passes through the town. It is about 85km away from the state capital, Hyderabad and 60km away from district head quarter Warangal city.
- Air : Nearest air port is Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad, which is about 90km.
- Rail : Jangaon train station is on Secunderabad Kazipet trunk route. Hence, the town is well connected with major cities in India. The station hosts frequent train service to Secunderabad and Kazipet and to other long distance running trains. The station has Reservation facility as well.
- Road : The state's bus service provider APSRTC holds a bus depot in Jangaon. It hosts very frequent services to Hanamkonda, Hyderabad, Siddipet and Suryapet and other long distance services to Bangalore, Anantapur, Hubli, Vijayawada, Kodad, Karimnagar, Nizamabad, Mahabubnagar, Kurnool, Adilabad, Suryapet, Khammam, Bhadrachalam, Basara, Mysore and many other places.

Jangaon experiences a tropical kind of climate. It's a drought prone area according to Geological survey. Experiences very hot summers, moderate winters and rains less than the average precipitation.
Commerce
Nawabpet cattle market is the second biggest market in Telangana region of Andhra Pradesh.
Major occupations
The people here directly or indirectly depend on agriculture. Farming, farming related business, education, retail and wholesale business, handloom, weaving etc. are the major occupations. It is expected that the completion of J Chokka Rao Godavari Devadula Lift Irrigation Phase - II, will boost the farming activity and also will provide fluoride-free drinking water to the area.
