Janet Adamson

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Janet Laurel Adamson (9 May 1882 25 April 1962) was a Labour Party politician in the United Kingdom.

Janet "Jennie" Adamson was originally elected as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Dartford in a by-election in 1938. In the 1945 general election, after boundary changes, Adamson was elected MP for Bexley. She resigned in 1946, precipitating a by-election won by Labour candidate Ashley Bramall. The constituency was subsequently gained (in 1950) by future Prime Minister Edward Heath.

She served as a Parliamentary Private Secretary from 1940 to 1945 and Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Pensions from 1945 to 1946.[1]

The Labour Party campaign centre and headquarters building in Bexleyheath is named "Jennie Adamson House" in honour of the former MP.
