Jane Austen College is an approved mainstream secondary free school located in Norwich, owned by the Inspiration Trust, due to be opened in September 2014.[1] The school's Principal will be Claire Heald.[2]

History

Plans for the school were announced in March 2013 with the intention to locate in central Norwich.[2] Jane Austen was approved by the Department for Education, on 22 May 2013, to open in September 2014.[3]

Academic organisation

The school will educate 1,100 students aged 11–18. The school plans to specialise in English and humanities, and all pupils will be required to study a language until age 16.[4] There will be classes on cultural education and the compulsory language study will include Latin.[5] The school intends not to set homework for its pupils, and to instead extend the school day to finish at 5pm to allow for extra study and sport.[1][5]
