From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Jan Lindhardt (b. 24 April 1938 in Copenhagen) is a Danish theologian and writer. He is the son of professor dr.theol. Poul Georg Lindhardt and Gerda Winding. He is the older brother of the minister Mogens Lindhardt, and uncle to actor Thure Lindhardt.

He was cand.theol. from Copenhagen University in 1962, dr.theol. 1983. He was Bishop of Roskilde Diocese 1997-2008.

Opinions

Lindhart is often used in television and newspapers to comment on developments in the state church and explain to people ecclesiastical matters.

He, alongside Jacob Holm of the Fredenskirken in Viby J, holds the opinion that Hell in the traditional Christian (and Muslim) concept does not exist (rejecting eternal punishment in Hell), and that the Danish National Church's concept should instead regard a more universalist doctrine. Such opinion is rejected by the fundamentalist Inner Mission organization.[1]
