Jan Furtok (born 9 March 1962 in Katowice) is a retired Polish football player and best player in the history of GKS Katowice.[1]
He played for a few clubs, including GKS Katowice, Hamburger SV-(Germany) and Eintracht Frankfurt (Germany).
He played for Polish national team, for which he played 36 matches and scored 10 goals.
He was a participant at the 1986 FIFA World Cup.
His goal scored by hand rescued Poland from humiliating home draw against San Marino in 1994 FIFA World Cup qualification.[citation needed] Watch the video here.
He ranked 2-nd top scorer in the 1990/1991 Bundesliga season with 20 goals for Hamburger SV, after Germany had become a World Champion in 1990.
His record of 20 goals for a polish player in a single Bundesliga season was taken over by Robert Lewandowski who scored 22 goals in season 2011/2012.
Jan Furtok is now acting as President of Foundation "Young GieKSa" and actively involved with the youth club of GKS Katowice football club.
