Jamie Owen

Jamie Owen (born 1967) is a Journalist, broadcaster, writer and BBC Wales Today presenter.

Background

Jamie was born in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire. His father, James Meyrick Owen, was a Pembroke Dock Solicitor, and his mother was a health visitor and midwife. Jamie also had two brothers, Huw and Richard.^[1] The family is descended from the Meyrick and Owen families of Pembrokeshire, after whom two streets in Pembroke Dock are named. The road to Pembroke Dock ferry terminal has been named in honour of Jamie's father.

Education

Jamie was educated at Pennar School, Pembroke Dock; Christ College, Brecon; University of Gloucestershire and Cardiff University

Career

Jamie joined the BBC in 1986 and worked at BBC Radio 3 later joining BBC Radio 4 as a newsreader and announcer. He has been a main presenter on BBC Wales' flagship news programme, BBC Wales Today since 1994, as has presented a weekday morning radio show on BBC Radio Wales. He currently presents a talk programme for BBC Radio Wales on Sundays at midday. He has also presented Songs of Praise, BBC Breakfast News and BBC Radio 4's Shipping Forecast and is currently working with BBC World Service Trust in the Middle East in Jordan, Ramallah, Libya and Egypt.

Jamie is an author of five books -

• "Magic Islands" - a sailing journey around the islands off Wales in a 100 year old Bristol Channel Pilot Cutter
• "Magic Harbours" - a sailing voyage around the harbours of Wales
• "Welsh Journeys" and "More Welsh Journeys" - charted travels around the Welsh landscape published by Gomer Press
• "Around Wales by B-Roads and Byways" published by Ebury Press in London is his latest book.

His first three books have been filmed for the BBC and are all now available on DVD.^[2]
