The Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP) (Urdu: جميعت علماء پاکستان) (Assembly of Pakistani Clergy) is a political party in Pakistan usually seen as being political vehicle for the religious Barelvi Sunni strain. It is part of the Islamic Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, that won at the last legislative elections, 20 October 2002, 11.3 of the popular vote and 53 out of 272 elected members.
JUP was founded and headed until 1970 by the late Allama Mohammad Abdul Ghafoor Hazarvi and later on Khwaja Qamar ul Din Sialvi. After them Allama Shah Ahmad Noorani Siddiqi took over as president till 11 December 2003. After him, his son Shah Anas Noorani took charge of JUP. However, Anas Noorani resigned from the post of president in March 2008.[1]
