Jake Bostwick is an English mixed martial artist, fighting in the welterweight division. He is a veteran of British MMA, having fought in Cage Rage and UCMMA.[1] He is a former UCMMA Middleweight Champion and currently the UCMMA Welterweight Champion.

Mixed martial arts career

Cage Rage

Bostwick made his MMA debut at the very first Cage Rage Contenders, defeating Tory Groman in just 9 seconds by KO.[2]

He would go on to win his next two bouts in Cage Rage Contenders before losing his next 4 bouts against future UCMMA champions Michael Pastou, John Maguire (twice) as well as James Elson.

He made his debut on the main stage Cage Rage events against John Phillips at Cage Rage 25: Bring it On. After an early scare, Phillips battered Bostwick with a series of ground-and-pound attacks to claim the win.[3] However, soon after, Phillips tested positively for a banned substance under Cage Rage's new drug testing scheme (becoming the first ever Cage Rage fighter to fall foul of the tests).[4] This changed the result of the bout to a "no contest" and Phillips was suspended from competition in England for four months.[4]

He then fought back at Cage Rage Contenders again for his next two bouts, losing to Jack Mason at Cage Rage Contenders 9 and Steve Dossett at Cage Rage Contenders 10, the final Cage Rage Contenders.

Bostwick's last Cage Rage appearance was at Cage Rage 28: VIP, the last ever Cage Rage event,[5] where he rematched John Phillips. Midway through the second round, Phillips was able to force Bostwick to submit to strikes.[6] His overall record from Cage Rage was 3-7 (1).

UCMMA

After the fall of Cage Rage, Bostwick joined onto Dave O'Donnell's new promotion, Ultimate Challenge MMA. He won his first fight in over two years at their inaugural event, UCMMA 1 - Bad Breed, against the same man he last won a fight against - Marvin Arnold Bleau.[7]

He would then loss to Rafik Benziada at UCMMA 3, then defeated Marc Schuld at an event in Germany less than a month later.

He next fought Alex Reid in a wildly covered UK1 kickboxing bout at UCMMA 5, in which he lost via KO from a knee.[8] Controversy hit when Reid went back to Bostwick, who was still dazed on the ground, and triumphantly poses with one foot on his back and his hands in the air. Dave O'Donnell said that Reid apologised to Bostwick after the fight and that there were no hard feeling for each other.[9]

He then lost to Mike Edwards in MMA at UCMMA 9 - Fighting for Heroes. He bounced back from this lost to defeat future UCMMA Middleweight Champion Denniston Sutherland through a close split decision victory.[10]

After defeating Earl Brown, Bostwick took a year out to recover from an injury. He returned at UCMMA 25 - The Beatdown in a rematch against Denniston Sutherland, this time with Sutherland putting up his recently acquired UCMMA Middleweight Title on the line.[11] Bostwick KO'ed Sutherland late into the first round to become the new UCMMA Middleweight Champion.[12]

He then dropped down to Welterweight to face Jamaine Facey for the vacant UCMMA Welterweight Title at UCMMA 28.[13] He knocked out Facey to claim the UCMMA Welterweight Title.[14] This marks his second title in MMA, second in UCMMA, and become a double champion in two divisions.[15]

On the 6th July, UCMMA announced via their website that Bostwick had vacated his Middleweight Belt to fight full-time in their Welterweight division.[16]

Trivia

Bostwick's 21st birthday was shown on Sky Living on Party Wars.[17][18]

Jake found himself with some bad press after he has been accused of scuffling with a 74-year-old cancer patient, grappling with one man on the floor and “setting traps” for people making charity donations and taking their pets to the vet whilst working as a wheel clamper.[19] Greenwich police said Bostwick and his clamper team were not doing anything illegal but they did warn drivers to be careful where they park.
