Jaipur Zoo is a zoo in Jaipur city of Rajasthan state in India. The Zoo was opened in 1877 and is located near to the Albert hall museum .It is divided into two parts: one for mammals and other for birds and reptiles. Nearly 50 species of different birds and animals from all over the world can be seen here. In year 1999, the ghariyal breeding farm is established which is fourth largest breeding farm in India. A museum is also constructed inside the zoo which expo the wild life of Rajasthan. The Jaipur Zoo has been constituted under the Wild Life (Protection) Act. The main objective of the zoo is to complement the national effort in conservation of wild life.

Objectives of the zoo

  • To convey the value of conservation through education.
  • Captive breeding of endangered species.
  • To inspire local and global communities to protect, conserve, and celebrate wildlife.
  • To provide knowledge and care for the natural world.

Timing

  • Summer timing - 8:30 AM to 5:30 PM
  • Winter timing - 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM

Rules

Prohibited

  • Carrying Non-biodegradable materials such as plastic, polythene etc.
  • Smoking, lighting of fire.
  • Teasing, feeding, disturbing animals by any manner.
  • Carrying arms, ammunitions or explosives.
  • Carrying or playing musical instruments such as radio, transistors etc..
  • Playing games or sports.

Conservation Breeding programs

The zoo is part of conservation breeding programs of the Central Zoo Authority and government of rajasthan for the ghariyal, cheetal and crocodile.

Incidents

  • In year 2010,Eleven spotted deer have died due to extreme cold conditions. The deer were suffering from suspected pneumonia and succumbed on January 16 and 17.
  • in oct. 2013 A rare white tiger, which was brought from Andhra Pradesh died at the zoo just 13 days after,Seven-year-old Madhav had refused food since he was brought from the Sri Venkateshwara Zoological Park
