Jagtar Singh Hawara(Punjabi:ਜਗਤਾਰ ਸਿੰਘ ਹਵਾਰਾ ), is a member of Babbar Khalsa. Babbar Khalsa. Jagtar Singh Hawara is also considered a freedom fighter among the supporters of the Khalistan movement.[citation needed] He is a Jat of Bhangoo (bhangu) clan and belongs to Hawara village in Fatehgarh Sahib.[1] His father died in 1991.[citation needed] His mother's name is Narinder Kaur.[citation needed] He is one of the main accused in the assassination of the Punjab Chief Minister Beant Singh.[2] He was accused of the murder of a granthi (Sikh priest) of Muktsar at the age of 15 but was later acquitted.[3][4] Hawara came back into limelight, in 2004, when he escaped from maximum security jail at Burail, along with 2 other Sikh prisoners by digging a 90 feet tunnel with his bare hands[5] (Jagtar Singh Tara & Paramjit Singh Bheora), the third one was a cook.[2][6]
