The Jackson Showboats are a team in the American Basketball Association based in Jackson, Mississippi that began play in the 2012-13 ABA season. Grant Worsley founded the team after moving to Mississippi from New Jersey, and quickly provided a needed outlet for great basketball talent in Mississippi and its region. Former collegiate stars Dietric Slator from Mississippi State and Trey Montgomery from Samford put the Showboats on the national radar. [1] The Showboats finished in the top 15 in their first ABA season, and several players went overseas and were selected into the NBA D- League draft as a result of the team's success.[2]
