Jack Griffin
Jack Griffin is the Founder and President of Empirical Media, an advisory firm that he established in 2011 with partner Jim Friedlich, to bring strategic and operating counsel to media and marketing services companies and executives.[1] Jack is currently serving as a Senior Advisor to and Board Member of a number of established and early-stage firms in traditional and digital media. He also advises investors and private equity firms regarding potential transactions and media industry issues. Most recently, Jack was CEO of Time Inc., the nation’s largest magazine company.[2]
Career
Griffin spent a dozen years at Meredith Corporation. As President of its National Media Group since 2004, he led a transformation of Meredith into a digitally enabled, diversified media and marketing company. From its print roots, Meredith became a major provider of marketing services through Meredith Integrated Marketing, of which Jack was the founding General Manager in 1996. Griffin also designedd and directed Meredith’s expansion into new businesses such as Meredith Licensing, Meredith Hispanic Ventures and the creation of Meredith 360, the company’s cross platform sales and marketing business. From 2005-2010, Jack oversaw the integration of over $600 million of acquisitions, led by the 2005 acquisition of Gruner + Jahr USA and numerous digital marketing companies.
Griffin has held other industry positions, serving as Chairman of the Magazine Publishers of America (MPA), Chairman of the American Advertising Federation (AAF) and as a Director of the Internet Advertising Bureau (IAB) and the Audit Bureau of Circulations (ABC). Griffin has received industry awards and recognitions and is a speaker on the media industry. He has lectured at Yale, Northwestern, Stanford and other leading educational institutions.[3] He is currently a Director of the Yale Center for Customer Insights and is on the Business Advisory Board of ProPublica, the investigative news organization.
Griffin is a graduate of the Yale School of Management and Boston College. He has two grown sons and lives in Connecticut and Massachusetts with his wife, Pammy Brooks.[4]
