Jabo Oshevire Michae Ibehre (born 28 January 1983) is an English footballer who plays as a forward for Colchester United.

Career

Leyton Orient

Ibehre, born in Islington, London, came up through the youth ranks at Leyton Orient, making his debut at the age of 17, coming on as a substitute in a 2–1 away defeat to Northampton Town on 7 March 2000.[3] He made three appearances for Orient in the 1999–2000 season, and made nine appeances in 2000–01, scoring his first two goals for the club in a 2–0 away win over Macclesfield Town on 5 May 2001.[4] His third season with the club saw him score five goals in 33 appearances, and was awarded the Leyton Orient 'goal of the season' award.[5][6]

In 2006, Ibehre rejected a move away from Orient after the club had accepted £100,000 offers from Brighton & Hove Albion and Wycombe Wanderers.[7]

After making nearly 250 appearances for Leyton Orient and scoring over 40 goals, in May 2008 Ibehre was released from the club having not been offered a new contract.[8]

Walsall

On 2 July 2008, Walsall signed Ibehre following the expiration of his contract with Leyton Orient.[7] He scored his first goal for the club in a 1–1 draw with Yeovil Town on 9 August 2008.[9] He formed a good partnership with former England striker Michael Ricketts, impressing then-Saddlers boss Jimmy Mullen.[10] He scored an 89th minute winner over Scunthorpe United on 16 August to continue his good run of form.[11] Ibehre went on to score 10 League One goals for Walsall in 2009–10.[12]

Milton Keynes Dons

On 11 June 2009, Milton Keynes Dons signed Ibehre on a two-year contract having turned down a new deal to remain with Walsall.[13] He scored his first goal for the club in a 1–0 away win at Tranmere Rovers on 18 August 2009.[14]

On 27 November 2009, having made just three starts for the Dons and scoring one goal, Ibehre joined Southend United on loan for one month, where he made four appearances.[15]

On 20 January 2010, he and five other players signed for Stockport County, making his debut in a 1–0 defeat against Swindon.[16] He scored a brace for County against Colchester United in a 2–2 draw on 12 February.[17] and then against former club Walsall on 3 April in a 1–1 draw from the penalty spot.[18] He also scored goals against Norwich City[19] and Southend United.[20]

For the 2010–11 season, Ibehre returned to Milton Keynes and scored a brace in the Dons' 2–1 League Cup win over Dagenham & Redbridge.[21] Predominantly being utilised as a substitute, Ibehre scored five times in 48 games for the club and was subsequently offered a new two-year deal in June 2011.[22]

Having scored nine goals in 47 games in the 2011–12 season, Ibehre failed to make an impact in 2012–13 with the Dons, and on 27 September 2012 he was loaned to Colchester United on a three-month deal. He was one of three recruits signed by new Colchester boss Joe Dunne alongside Craig Eastmond and Sanchez Watt on loan from Arsenal.[23] The loan trio went straight into the squad for the match against Hartlepool United on 29 September, a game which Colchester won 3–1, with Ibehre scoring a brace.[24] He scored his third goal in three games for Colchester in a 3–1 defeat to Yeovil on 6 October[25] and scored his final goal of his loan period in a 2–0 win against Carlisle United on 20 October.[26]

Colchester United

Following his successful loan spell with the U's, Ibehre signed permanently for Colchester United on 22 January 2013 on a free transfer from MK Dons.[27] He scored against former club Walsall on his second debut for Colchester to give the team their first points for nine games.[28] He scored a brace in a 2–0 away win over Stevenage to help move the club out of the relegation zone on 2 March 2013.[29] In the following match against Hartlepool United, a 0–0 draw, Ibehre received the first red card of his Colchester United career after 44 minutes for serious foul play.[30] Following his suspension, he scored his first goal since his brace at Walsall on 13 April in a 3–1 defeat to Notts County.[31] At the end of his first season with the club, in which he scored eight goals in 30 appearances, Ibehre was named Colchester United 'Player of the Year'.[32]

Following the expiration of his short-term contract, Ibehre signed a new two-year contract extension with Colchester in June 2013.[33] He scored his first goal of the new season on 6 August in a 5–1 home defeat to Peterborough United in the League Cup, levelling the scores at 1–1 just after half-time.[34] He again scored in another defeat on 31 August, this time to his former club Leyton Orient, scoring Colchester's solitary goal in a 2–1 home loss.[35] Ibehre netted his third league goal of the season to put the U's 2–1 up in a 2–2 draw with Bradford City on 14 September.[36] He had to wait until 26 November for his next goal, following a brief injury lay-off, as he put the U's 2–0 ahead in a 3–1 win against his former club MK Dons, Colchester's first victory over the Dons since January 2010.[37] He netted his fifth of the season in a 2–0 away victory against Oldham Athletic on 21 December, tapping in from a Dominic Vose lay-off.[38] Ibehre scored in the following game, a 4–0 home win against Stevenage, with an acrobatic volley.[39]
