Izhemsky District (Russian: Иже́мский райо́н; Komi: Изьва район) is an administrative district (raion), one of the twelve in the Komi Republic, Russia.[1] Municipally, it is incorporated as Izhemsky Municipal District.[2] It is located in the north of the republic. The area of the district is 18,420 square kilometers (7,110 sq mi).[citation needed] Its administrative center is the rural locality (a selo) of Izhma.[1] District's population: 18,771 (2010 Census);[3] 21,511 (2002 Census);[6] 23,315 (1989 Census).[7] The population of Izhma accounts for 20.0% of the district's total population.[3]
Demographics
Ethnic Komi make up the largest share of total population (86.52% in 1989). Natural increase in population was -0.66 per 1,000 in 1994.
The district is the only one in the republic where birth rate is at or above replaceable levels. As of 2008, birth rate was 17.4 per 1,000 and TFR was 2.17 children per women.[8]
