Iwan "Iwcs" Roberts

Iwan "Iwcs" Roberts (born 1967) is a Welsh actor, lyricist and singer.

Biography

Roberts was born in Dolgellau, Gwynedd, and started his career as an actor by performing in the Urdd Eisteddfod and local Eisteddfodau whilst a pupil at Trawsfynydd primary school, where he was nicknamed "Iwcs". After leaving school, he worked in many small-scale theatre productions with Theatr Arad Goch, Theatr Bara Caws and others before making his television debut in the series Rhew Poeth in 1986. Roberts made a short appearance in the Welsh soap opera Pobol y Cwm in the late 1980s before going on to act in numerous other series including C'mon Midffild.

In 1995, Iwan Roberts played the lead role in the drama series A55 shown on S4C; the series won a BAFTA Cymru award for Best Drama Series. In 1996, Roberts diversified his career and together with John Doyle, formed a duo calling themselves Iwcs a Doyle. The pair entered the annually held Cân i Gymru (Song for Wales) contest, and won the competition. Iwcs a Doyle released an album of songs in 1997 which received to both popular and critical acclaim. The pair performed in many venues and festivals, including Sesiwn Fawr Dolgellau, Wales, and the Pan Celtic Festival in Tralee, Ireland in 1996.

Iwcs composed and recorded a solo album entitled Cynnal Fflam (Maintaining the Flame) in 2005. The album was released on the Gwynfryn Cymunedol record label.[1]

Roberts returned to Pobol y Cwm in 2006 to play the role of Kevin Powell. He remains in this role as one of the main characters today.
