Ivian Sarcos (born July 26, 1989 in Guanare, Venezuela) is a Venezuelan beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss World 2011[2] on November 6, 2011 in London, United Kingdom. Sarcos is the sixth woman from Venezuela to win Miss World and the 61st Miss World in the history of the pageant.

Early life

Ivian is a Diplomacy student at the Universidad Central de Venezuela[3] who stands 1.80 m (5'11") tall. Being an orphan at the age of 8 as her parents died, Sarcos was raised by the nuns in a convent in Cojedes. She had intended to become a nun, but she found a new passion in the world of fashion and started her career as a model. Sarcos comes from a family of 12 brothers and sisters. She is a supporter of Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez.[4][5][6]

Miss World Venezuela 2010

Sarcos competed as Miss Amazonas in her country's national beauty pageant, Miss Venezuela 2010, on October 28, 2010, and obtained the title of Miss World Venezuela 2010.[7] She also won the L'bel Most Beautiful Face award.[8]

Miss World 2011

On 6 November 2011, Sarcos won the 2011 Miss World pageant held in Earls Court Exhibition Centre, in London, United Kingdom. She placed third runner-up during the Miss World Beach Beauty[9] event held on October 29 and fifth-runner-up in Miss World Top Model[10] also held on October 29, becoming the eventual winner of Miss World 2011 on November 6. She became the sixth woman from Venezuela to capture the Miss World crown. In a press conference after her victory, she said: “This has taught me that life, although it may be bad, doesn’t have to end badly. Although I no longer have my parents, it has taught me to be stronger”. “I want to carry on doing the wonderful work that ‘Beauty with a Purpose’ and the Miss World organization does and to help people in need,” she said, “I want to help people like me”.[11] The President of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, congratulated Sarcos, by telephone and on Twitter.[12] Ivian was interviewed on Univision for two TV programs (Despierta America, Don Francisco Presenta) [13] in Miami (USA) and had a big homage during 7 hours special on Venevision in her homecoming in Venezuela reaching 73% share of the viewing audience.[14] A press conference for her victory in Miss World 2011 was held in Caracas with several journalists.[15] She appears on Hello (magazine) [16] for UK, Look Caras and OK! magazine for Venezuela.[17] On January 4, 2012, President of Venezuela, Hugo Chávez, received Sarcos with flowers and plants a kiss on the hand of Miss World 2011 Ivian Sarcos after their meeting at the Miraflores presidential palace in Caracas. On the other hand, he also gave his government's support.[18][19][20] Ivian has a foundation, called Belleza con Proposito (Beauty with a purpose), for people in need.[21] On November 16, 2011, she attended the Duke of Edinburgh birthday lunch.[22] On January 16, 2012, Ivian was at the Ordos Ice Festival.[23]

In January, 2012, Sarcos won the "Miss Grand Slam 2011" title bestowed by Global Beauties.com, and "Miss of the Year 2011" according to salvicharm.com.[24] On March 2, she travelled to Moscow, where she crowned the respective Miss World Russia for the Miss World 2012 pageant.[25][26] She also travelled to Mumbai, where she crowned Femina Miss India World 2012 on March 30. In March, she attended the second "International Ordos Nadam Fair" in Ordos. Sarcos was honored to be one of the special guests attending the MIPTV in Cannes, France held on April 1 and 4. Originally, Sarcos was experted travel to the Fiji Islands, where she will crown Miss World Fiji 2012 to be held in Suva, however she did not reach there due to travel scheduling. On April 28, she travelled to Jakarta, where she crowned the respective Miss World Indonesia for the Miss World 2012 pageant.[27] Sarcos was in Ireland for Variety Children's Charity sharing with Brian Ormond. Ivian travelled to Ghana and Kenya from 19th to 28 May for humanitarian works. In May, she travelled to Nairobi, where she crowned the respective Miss World Kenya for the Miss World 2012.[28] On June 3, 2012, The Miss World Organization chartered a special boat and joining one of the largest flotillas ever assembled on the river Thames as part of Her Majesty the Queen's official river procession (Queen Elizabeth II). On board the boat were Miss World Chairman (Julia Morley) and Ivian Sarcos.[29]

In only nine months she traveled to China, France, Ghana, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Kenya, Russia, United Kingdom, United States and Venezuela.

On August 18, 2012, Sarcos crowned her successor Yu Wenxia of China during the Miss World 2012 Final in Ordos, Inner Mongolia, China.
