Issues is a Metalcore band from Atlanta, Georgia and Los Angeles, California. They formed in the summer of 2012 and were signed to Rise Records shortly after their formation and are expecting to release their self-titled debut album on February 18, 2014.

History

Formation (2012-2013)

The majority of the band's members originated from ex-members of Woe, Is Me, being Tyler Carter, Michael Bohn, Cory Ferris and Ben Ferris. Their debut EP, Black Diamonds, was released on November 13, 2012.[5] The lead single for Black Diamonds, titled "King of Amarillo," was released on October 2, 2012, along with a lyric video.[6] The band was featured on the Punk Goes Pop 5 compilation album covering "Boyfriend," originally by Justin Bieber.[7]

Shortly after the band's formation and announcement of their first tour, keyboardist Ben Ferris decided to leave the group in order to pursue further education and a career in the business aspect of music.[8] In early September 2012, the band announced they'd be hitting the road in the fall for the first time on the "Party with the Devil Tour" featuring bands such as Adestria, Ice Nine Kills, Make Me Famous, and headliner/long time friends Attila.[9]

Bassist, Cory Ferris was unable to participate in the recording for Black Diamonds due to him being unable to obtain a flight to the recording session. He also announced on October 25, 2012 that he would also not be participating in the "Party With The Devil" tour via Twitter.[10] His lack of any possible activity in Issues along with his brother Ben's early departure led to his decision to leave the band in November 2012. Neither brother recorded any released material with the band, as Ben had left before the rest of the band entered the studio; due to Cory's absence during the recording of Black Diamonds, bass duties were handled by keyboardist/synth player Ty Acord's brother, Skyler Acord. Skyler was later asked to join the band after the amicable departure of Jake Vintson.[11]

Self-titled album (2013-present)

Issues' first release of 2013 was a stand alone single titled 'Hooligans', which was released on 5 July and was accompanied with a music video.[12] On May 19, 2013 the band participated in the Vans Warped Tour.[13] After the tour, they went into the studio to record their début album[14] then it was later announced that the album has been completed and will be self-titled.[15] The album initially had a late 2013 release however it was pushed back to early 2014 in order to "...to get things just right!".[16] Issues made another release through Fearless Records on the "Punk Goes Christmas" album, released on the 2nd of November, with song "Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays".[17]

On November 19, 2013 the band released a teaser for their new song, "Stingray Affliction", from their forthcoming album.[18] It was later announced that they would be joining Beartooth on Of Mice & Men UK headlining tour in April as a support act.[19] The band released their track listing for their self-titled album.[20]

On December 18, 2013 the band via Alternative Press officially announced that their self-titled album will be released on February 18, 2014. Along with the announcement the band premiered their first single from the album, "Stingray Affliction".[21] The same day it was announced that they will be joining Bring Me the Horizon and Of Mice & Men on their American Dream Tour beginning February with fellow supporting acts letlive. and Northlane.[22]

On January 14, 2014 they released the second single off the upcoming album titled "Never Lose Your Flames".[23] It was also announced that they will be performing the entire Vans Warped Tour 2014.[24]

Musical style

Issues has often been associated with the metalcore genre with a mixture of R&B. Reviews for the debut EP Black Diamonds often called the album primarily metalcore[1][2] with an influence of R&B.[3][4] The band themselves has commented that wanted to mix metal and "Top 40" music in the same way that nu-metal mixed heavy metal music with hip hop music.[25]
