Inverkeithing High School is a secondary school located in Inverkeithing, a town in West Fife, Scotland, on the north side of the Forth Road Bridge. The school is split into four houses: Castle (red), Palace (green), Tower (yellow) and Abbey (blue).
The school teaches pupils from Inverkeithing, Dalgety Bay, Rosyth, Aberdour and High Valleyfield, but also from Dunfermline under exceptional circumstances. The school employs approximately 100 staff. the school also has many sports teams in sports such as football, rugby and basketball. [1] In the 2012/2013 season, the school managed to come 4th in the Fife school basketball league, and reached the 3rd round with every year group in the Scottish cup.
In 2007 it became the first Secondary School in Fife to be awarded an Eco-Schools Green Flag[1] - this reflects the staff and students commitment to the environment. In November 2011 the school successfully passed the assessment for a third Green Flag.[1] The school also achieved the Radio Forth Teacher of the Year 2011, Mrs Gordon, as a staff member.[1]
The school has a strong academic tradition, with over 59% of its intake proceeding to higher and further education.[1] IHS has also formed a unique link with Carnegie College (now Fife College) in Dunfermline, developing vocational courses and group awards for a range of students. The work in the area has gained national recognition.[1] The school is celebrating its 40th birthday in 2013, after pupils first went to Inverkeithing High School in 1973.[1]
The school population exceeds 1500 (students ranging in age from 11 to 18), with 6% of students coming from outwith the catchment area.[1]
The IHS Media Network
A project for pupils, run by pupils - Inverkeithing High School's Media Network is a pioneering collaborative project which teaches pupils important skills in Media, while also providing an invaluable resource for pupils, teachers, parents and the wider community. The project, which was launched by a first year pupil in 2007, has won a variety of prestigious awards including a Times Education Award (2012), and a Naace Impact Award (2012). Content is featured on The Media Network website, as well as throughout social media, termly newsletters, and the school's Digital Signage System.
