"Into a Swan" is a song written and performed by Siouxsie Sioux (Siouxsie and the Banshees, The Creatures) for Sioux's debut solo album MantaRay. [1] [2] It was released in the UK on W14 on 3 September 2007 and is available in a variety of formats [3] The single is Sioux's first solo release in her thirty-year recording career — her only other releases away from the Banshees or the Creatures were the "Interlude" single, a duet with Morrissey in 1994, another duet with Marc Almond titled "Threat of Love"; and a collaboration with Basement Jaxx on the title track of their album Kish Kash.
Aside from a digital download, "Into a Swan" was released as a series of 7-inch vinyl singles as well as CD singles, containing an exclusive slipcase and fold-out poster. Confirmed B-sides are "Swansway" and a reprise version of "Into a Swan". A 12-inch single with remixes by Andrew Weatherall and Mekon were released on 1 October.
The music video for the track leaked to the internet via YouTube weeks before it was released. It was later available to stream on Siouxsie's official website. About the video's leak Siouxsie commented, "YouTube, technology – I hate it. Everybody has downloaded it. You try to stop it, but it's pointless. Someone from [the gay club] Trannyshack in San Francisco is already miming their act to the song. Even my brother hasn’t heard it yet. Mind you, he’s only just got an answerphone."[4]
"Into a Swan" received a 7 out of 10 rating from Yahoo Music. [5] Upon release, "Into a Swan" hit number 59 in the UK Singles Chart. The song is also featured in the opening credit of the film Alien Raiders.
