NGC 253 is an intermediate spiral galaxy located in the constellation Sculptor.

An intermediate spiral galaxy is a galaxy that is in between the classifications of a barred spiral galaxy and an unbarred spiral galaxy.[1][2] It is designated as SAB in the galaxy morphological classification scheme.[1][2]

Grades

Under the de Vaucouleurs classification system, SAB-galaxies are intermediate between SA-galaxies and SB-galaxies
