Insight Guides

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Insight Guides are a corporation based in London who create travel guides for commercial and domestic use. They produce travel guides and maps. They also produce globes. Insight Guides was founded by Hans Johannes Hofer. Insight Guides are noted for their pioneering technique of merging full-color photography to essays written by local experts. [1] [2] [3] The idea behind such concept is to give readers not only reliable and practical information, but a real understanding into the historical and cultural background of destinations. Hofer's first book, published in 1970, was based on the island of Bali, and was funded by a local hotel there. From there he built his publishing empire, exceeding 400 guide books on over 100 destinations. In the late 1990s, he sold his share of the company to Langenscheidt KG.
