History

Innovis Health was formerly known as Dakota Clinic / Innovis Health until the two integrated to form a not-for-profit organization. On November 27, 2007, Innovis Health announced a merger with Essentia Health, an affiliation of the Benedictine Health System and SMDC Health System, a multi-state, not-for-profit healthcare system headquartered in Minnesota. On September 1, 2010; Innovis announced it would be changing its name to Essentia Health. "All of Essentia’s 17 hospitals, 62 clinics and 750 physicians will now be named under the Essentia umbrella to create a single, more streamlined organization, said officials. According to reports, the goal of the changes is to create efficiency and reduce health care costs."[1]
