Ink is a global travel media company with offices in London, Singapore, Shanghai, New York and Atlanta. It deals in B2B and B2C products. The company reaches an audience of hundreds of millions of travelers each year. As of 2012, it was producing inflight magazines in 17 languages.[1]

Ink produces targeted advertising (TAD) on confirmation emails, check-in emails, print-at-home and mobile boarding passes on behalf of airlines and travel companies. In addition, Ink conducts global passenger research, holds the Airline Retail Conference,[2] China Travel Retail[3] Conference and produces the Airline Passenger Experience[4] media platform.

Overview

Ink was founded in 1994. Group Publishing Director Simon Leslie and Executive Creative Director Michael Keating founded the company to service two small airlines, one in the Middle East and the other in Africa.

In 2004, the company was acquired by current Chief Executive Jeffrey O’Rourke and Chief Operating Officer Hugh Godsal, the founders of eSubstance (an online-offline content publishing company).[5]

As of 2013, Ink works with 37 airlines, producing magazines and print-at-home boarding pass advertising.[6] It employs approximately 300 staff and has offices in London, Singapore, Shanghai, Melbourne, New York and Atlanta. It runs titles from each of its 6 offices, sharing overhead expenses, and selling advertising across borders based on behaviour as opposed to financial targets.[7]

Ink’s publishing portfolio comprises around 40 magazines produced in 13 languages across Europe, the United States and Central America, Africa, Asia, Asia Pacific and the Middle East.

Advertising

In addition to its magazine business, Ink produces personalised advertising on print-at-home boarding passes and confirmation emails,[8] and tailored inflight eMagazines.It sells advertising in over 100 countries in the form of magazines, retail catalogues, entertainment guides, and websites, print-at-home boarding passes, itineraries and confirmation emails as well as mobile apps.It also sells media space on headrest covers, table trays, menus, timetables and seat-backs for airlines.

Conferences and events

Twice a year, Ink produces the Airline Retail Conference (ARC), for airlines, inflight retail concessionaires and brands that wish to market their products to passengers. ARC is held in Europe in July and in Asia-Pacific in February. It also produces the ARC companion publication and show directory, Airline Retail News.

The company also runs an annual China Travel Retail conference in Sanya, China.

Ink also produces the Airline Passenger Experience Media Platform[9] in association with APEX.
