Ingrid Louise Visser (4 June 1977 – May 2013[1]) was a Dutch female volleyball player. She was born in Gouda and murdered in Spain.
Volleyball
In 1995 Visser was a member of the Netherlands women's national volleyball team at the European Championship that won the gold medal by beating Croatia (3–0) in the finals. She represented the Netherlands at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, where her team finished in fifth place.[2] In 2007 she won a silver medal at the Boris Yeltsin Cup in Yekaterinburg, after Netherlands lost to China (3–1). From 1994 to 2011 Visser played 514 matches with the national team, which is a record number for a Dutch player in any team sports.
In 2003/04 Visser won the IECL with Spar Tenerife Marichal.
Death
On 13 May 2013, Visser and her partner Lodewijk Severein went missing in Spain. The couple did not return to their hotel in Murcia. Two weeks later, on 27 May, their bodies were found in a shallow grave in a lemon grove. The pair had been abducted, tortured and killed.[3][4] Spanish police arrested Juan Cuenca Lorente, ex-director of volleyball club CAV Murcia, and two unnamed Romanian men.[5] The police stated that there had been "certain business disagreements" between the murdered couple and the three men under arrest.[6]
