Indianola is a town in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma, United States. The population was 191 at the 2000 census.
Geography
Indianola is located at 35°9′44″N 95°46′33″W / 35.16222°N 95.77583°W (35.162229, -95.775836)[3]. According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.78 km2), all of it land. Indianola is 211 meters above sea level.
Demographics
As of the census[1] of 2000, there were 191 people, 72 households, and 52 families residing in the town. The population density was 613.3 people per square mile (237.9/km²). There were 76 housing units at an average density of 244.0 per square mile (94.7/km²). The racial makeup of the town was 90.58% White, 6.28% Native American, and 3.14% from two or more races.
There were 72 households out of which 31.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.7% were married couples living together, 11.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 26.4% were non-families. 25.0% of all households were made up of individuals and 12.5% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.65 and the average family size was 3.17.
In the town the population was spread out with 29.3% under the age of 18, 11.5% from 18 to 24, 22.5% from 25 to 44, 21.5% from 45 to 64, and 15.2% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 103.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 114.3 males.
The median income for a household in the town was $32,969, and the median income for a family was $32,031. Males had a median income of $23,750 versus $24,375 for females. The per capita income for the town was $18,908. About 7.3% of families and 7.8% of the population were below the poverty line, including none of those under the age of eighteen and 21.4% of those sixty five or over.
