Indian Wrestling League
Indian Wrestling League is a proposed tournament by the Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) which is schedule in early 2013. This will be a six franchise based league scheduled in January–February 2013. The leading wrestlers both men as well as women will take part. The competitors will take part in seven different categories in freestyle wrestling.
This league was planned to be played in 2012 keeping London 2012 Olympics in mind. However due to some reasons this did not occur.[1]
The first season will be played from 6th November 2013. The season will have 30 games played on home and away format. The group stage will be followed by semifinals and final in knockout stage.[2]
There will be wrestlers from Japan and Kazakhstan apart from the Indian wrestlers. The venues for this league will be New Delhi, Agra, Mohali, Sonepat, Hissar, Ludhiana and Nandini Nagar. Bollywood star Akshay Kumar who himself wants to promote this sport wants to own a franchise in this league.[3]
