Diplomatic relations
India–Mexico relations have consistently been friendly, warm and cordial, characterised by mutual understanding and growing bilateral trade and all-round cooperation. Both nations established diplomatic relations on 1 August 1950. The following year, Mexico established an embassy in Delhi and the first Mexican ambassador to India was former Mexican President Emilio Portes Gil. In 1962, Nobel Prize laureate Octavio Paz was named ambassador to India.[1]
Both nations are significant emerging economies and important global players with similar socio-economic development priorities and constraints. Today, both nations are members of the United Nations and the G-20.

Trade
Trade between the two nations has been steadily increasing on an average of 30% each year. India is Mexico's 21st most important trading partner with Mexico importing from India diamonds, automobile parts and other electronic equipment. India mainly imports from Mexico oil, petroleum based products and minerals, among other things. Commerce between the two nations amounted to $7 billion USD. In 2012, India proposed that both nations should work towards a free trade agreement with each other respectively.[2]
Resident diplomatic missions

- Mexico has an embassy in New Delhi and honorary consulates in Kolkata and in Mumbai.[4]
