The company was founded in 2007 in India with offices in several countries.[1] InMobi aims at redefining mobile first customer-engagement platform through its suite of products ranging from app distribution & monetization to brand advertisements. With close to 690 million users across 160+ countries, InMobi serves billions of ads daily. With 350+ data scientists, engineers and analysts spread across the globe, InMobi continues to lead the industry in building architecturally superior mobile-first platforms. Its ability to challenge industry leaders such as Apple & Google and pioneering innovation in the ad space has enabled InMobi win a coveted spot in MIT Technology Review's 50 most disruptive companies of 2013.[2]

History

InMobi, earlier known as mKhoj,[3] started as an SMS-based search platform with initial funding from Mumbai Angels. In 2007, the company pivoted to a more scalable platform, mobile advertising. After the business model change, mKhoj rebranded itself to InMobi[3] and received two rounds of funding from Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers and Sherpalo Ventures. After venturing into mobile advertisement segment, the company initially banked upon mobile web publishers to generate revenue through Mobile Value Added Services via Mobile Phone Networks billing, for this the advertising network even accepted publishers and mobile web sites that contained illegal and pornographic content.[4]

Funding

InMobi had received $215.6 Million via Angel, Series A, Series B, and Series C funding. In September 2011, it received a $200 million funding from Softbank which would come in two Tranches - one of $100 millon in September 2011 and the other $100 million in April 2012.[5]
