In`am al-Hasan Kandhalvi (Urdu: انعام الحسن کاندھلوی, In‘āmu’l-Ḥasan Kāndhalvī) (2 March 1918  10 June 1995) was a notable Deobandi Sunni Muslim scholar from India and the third leader of the Tablighi Jamaat movement.

Biography

In`am al-Hasan was born on 18 Jumada I 1336 AH (2 March 1918) in the town of Kandhla (hence the surname Kandhalvi) in the modern-day state of Uttar Pradesh, India.

He studied at both Kashiful Uloom Nizamuddin and Mazahir Uloom Saharanpur. His teachers included:

  • Muhammad Ilyas Kandhalvi
  • Muhammad Zakariya Kandhalvi
  • Jamil Ahmad Thanvi
  • Ihtishamu'l-Hasan Kandhalvi
  • Abdul-Latif
  • Abdur-Rahman Kamilpuri

His companion in studies was Muhammad Yusuf Kandhalvi. Before he could complete his studies at Mazahir Uloom, he had to return home to Nizamuddin due to Muhammad Yusuf's illness. He completed his religious education in Nizamuddin under Muhammad Ilyas.

Maulana In`am al-Hasan was a Sufi disciple of Muhammad Ilyas. When Muhammad Ilyas was on his deathbed, he conferred khilafah (spiritual successorship) on In`amu'l-Hasan.

After the death of Muhammad Yusuf on 2 April 1965, Muhammad Zakariya held consultations with others and then appointed In`am al-Hasan as Muhammad Yusuf's successor. In`am al-Hasan held the position of Amir until his death on 9 May 1995.
