IMPREGILO S.p.A. (Italian pronunciation: [impregìlo]) is an Italy-based construction and civil engineering business headquartered in Milan. The company was formally founded in 1959 and, through mergers, has grown to become a large Italian engineering and general contracting group in the construction, concession and environmental sectors. It is listed on the Milan Stock Exchange. It is directed by Pietro Salini.
History
Impregilo was founded in 1959 and expanded following a merger with Cogefar-Impresit S.p.A., Girola S.p.A. and Lodigiani S.p.A. in 1990.[2]
Operations
Impregilo undertake the following types of works: dams, hydroelectric power plants, railways, subterranean projects, undergrounds, bridges, viaducts, highways, roads, ports, airports and prestigious residential and office complexes.[3] The company operates in more than 30 countries on 5 continents with 11,890 employees. It is organised into three businesses: Construction, Engineering & Plant Construction, General contracting, Concessions.[4]

Impregilo, together with the Spanish company Sacyr Vallehermoso and other two companies (Belgian Jan de Nul and Panamanian Cusa), won the tender for the expansion of the Panama Canal, due to be completed in 2014.[23]
Impregilo is also working on the Gotthard Base Tunnel, which is expected to be completed in 2015.[24]
Impregilo is the lead partner in the consortium for the Messina Bridge project which, according to the announcement by Silvio Berlusconi on 6 March 2009, will now go ahead and be completed in 2016.[25]
Impregilo is also leading a consortium for Red Line North, a part of the Doha Metro project in Qatar, which is expected to be completed in 2019.[26]
