Impetus Technologies is a privately held technology company specializing in software product development, and technology research and development (R&D) services. Founded in 1991 by Praveen Kankariya, Impetus is headquartered in Los Gatos, California with Development centers in Noida, Indore and Bangalore

Impetus specializes in big data, enterprise mobility and carrier grade systems.

History

The company was founded in 1991 by Praveen Kankariya in Indore, India, building software products and offering product design and development services.[2]

The first product developed by Impetus was for the newspaper industry. The product automated the news acquisition process from various wire services. This product was deployed at more than 200 publication houses across India.[3]

In 1996, Kankariya moved the company to the USA. The company's first international account for software product engineering services was 3M in 1995.[3]

Business

The core focus of the company is on software product development and technology R&D services. Impetus provides offerings in software architecture and design, development, test engineering, performance engineering, sustenance and support.

Impetus has been involved in hundreds of product launches for its global client base since its inception.[4]

The company works in domains including mobile and wireless, digital media, performance marketing, internet advertising, network security, telecom, finance, healthcare, supply chain management, CRM, and collaboration management.The company is also focused on emerging technologies in mobility, Big Data, SaaS, cloud computing, social media, product testing, and performance engineering.

Impetus provides tools, frameworks, and reusable components that aim to reduce the time required for application development. Some of these include iLeap, a generic keyword driven test automation framework and m-360, a set of frameworks intended to create mobile products with less development time and effort.

Impetus' R&D division is Innovation Labs.

Open Source contributions

Impetus has contributed to and created open-source software projects, including:

  • GAE-OpenSocial - Python based infrastructure for the OpenSocial community interested in the Google Cloud.[13]
  • Hadoop-toolkit: This can build tool kits/extensions for the Hadoop ecosystem. It creates and provides links to existing tools.[14]
  • Kundera: A JPA 2.0 compliant Object-Datastore Mapping Library for NoSQL Datastores.[15]
  • Zing: Java Apache Shindig-based OpenSocial-compatible social networking website [16]
  • WebROaR - Ruby application server [17]

Corporate social responsibility

At Impetus, all the corporate social responsibility initiatives are carried out by the team- iCare. Constituted by employees and their family members, iCare contributes to areas such as education, community and social development.

Impetus also sponsors the education of underprivileged children from orphanages that it has partnered with.[30]
