Ibiono-Ibom is located in the south-south (Niger Delta Region) of Nigeria and is a Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State. It has its administrative headquarters at Oko Ita. The territorial unit and geographical area called, addressed and known as ibiono ibom consists of nine clans(9) clans, thirty three (33)groups and one hundred and Ninety Three (193) villages. It covers a total land surface of 2761.76 sq. kilometers, with a total population of 385,145.
Major cities
Oko Ita is the local government headquarters of Ibiono Ibom. Idoro, Ididep, Afaha Obio Eno, Ikot Usen, Utit Obio, and Afua, Use Ndon, Ikpanya are a few of many prominent towns.

History
The people of Ibiono Ibom arrived in what is now Nigeria between 1200-1500 BC.[citation needed]
The region of the local government was created out of Itu Local government Area in December 1996.
Demography
The people are predominantly of the Christian faith. The main ethnic groups of the LGA are:
The Ibibio peoplewho speak a dialect of the Ibibio Language.
The Ibibio language belongs to the Benue–Congo language family, which forms part of the Niger–Congo group of languages.
Despite the homogeneity, no central government existed among the people of what is now Ibiono Ibom LGA prior to the British invasion in 1904.
When Ibiono Ibom was created in 1996, Oko Ita was chosen as the local government headquarters to spread development to all regions of the LGA.
Education
The current region of Ibiono Ibom in old Itu LGA were the first set of people to encounter Western education in Akwa Ibom State with the establishment of Mary Slessor secondary school,1950 and other top flight schools such as the Ididep Science College (formerly Teachers' Training College, Ididep). Currently various institutions for post primary education have sprung up and spread across the local government.

Politics in Ibiono Ibom is dominated by the people from the central part of Ibiono, with the highly endorse political party being PDP (Peoples Democratic Party)

Chairman Ibiono Ibom local government council: Rt. Hon. Godwin Ekpo He hails from Ikot Akpan Obong village in Utit Obio, and was born on 1 st January 1967. He had his primary education at Utit Obio Central School, Ikot Inyang, Ibiono Ibom Local Government Area.
Hon. Ime Bassey Okon, lawyer, community leader, politician and lawmaker, was born on August 22, 1960 in Ibiaku lkot Usen in Ibiono lbom Western in the present Ibiono Ibom local government area. He is the current member representing Ibiono Ibom State Constituency in the fifth Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly. He is the chairman, Rules, Business, Ethics & Privileges Committee. He has been a Solicitor and Advocate of the Supreme Court since 1995. Okon had previously served for nine months (September 2007-June 2008) as the Transition Chairman of Ibiono Ibom Local Government Council.
COMMISSIONER FOR FINANCE AKWA IBOM STATE: HON. ALBERT BASSEY AKPAN. PROFILE OF A TRUSTED AND COMPATIBLE TEAM LEADER; Bassey Albert resigned from First City Monument Bank Plc, as Vice President on nomination to serve as Honourable Commissioner in the Akwa Ibom State Executive Council. His position as Deputy General Manager made him in charge of Akwa Ibom and Cross River States, directing and overseeing the day to day running of over 15 branches spread across the Zone and as the Zonal Director, he articulated and developed key market penetration strategies for the Bank for sustainable market share and growth.
Rt.Hon. Senator ITA ENANG: Ita Solomon Enang (born 23 August 1962) is a Nigerian politician who represented the Itu and Ibiono Ibom Federal Constituency of Akwa Ibom State in the House of Representatives from 1999 to 2011. He was elected Senator for the Uyo (North East) Senatorial District of Akwa Ibom in the 2011 Federal elections. Background: Ita Solomon Enang was born on 23 August 1962. He attended the Presbyterian Teachers Training College, Ididep, Akwa Ibom State (1974-1979). He was admitted to the University of Calabar, Calabar in 1980 where he read Law, graduating in 1984. He went on to the Nigerian Law School, Lagos and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1985. He then entered private practice with his own law firm.[
