iContact Corporation is an international online service provider of email marketing and social media marketing to small, mid-sized, and premier businesses located in Raleigh, North Carolina.

iContact allows customers to create, track, and send HTML-based emails and social media messages.

iContact also offers Salesforce integration as well as Google Analytics integration.

History

The company was co-founded by Ryan Allis and Aaron Houghton, as Broadwick Corporation in 2003. In 2007, they re-branded themselves as iContact.[2]

In August 2010, iContact closed on a Series B investment of $40 mullion from JMI Equity, adding to previous investments from NC IDEA, Updata Partners, and North Atlantic Capital.[3]

On February 24, 2012, iContact was acquired for $169 million by Vocus, a public-relations marketing service.[4]

On March 14, 2012, Vocus began laying off a significant number of employees to avoid the cost in the overlap of a number of positions, with Allis also stepping down from his role as President.

Awards and recognitions

In 2008, iContact received CED’s Entrepreneurial Excellence Award.[5]

In 2009, iContact was named Software Company of the Year by North Carolina Technology Association.[6]

In 2011, iContact was named the second-fastest growing company on their Fast 50 list of the 50 fastest growing companies in the Triangle.[7]

Also in 2011, Deloitte’s 2011 Technology Fast 500™ Ranking ranked iContact 83 out of 500 top companies in all of North America for percentage growth from 2006 to 2010. It also ranked 17th out of all companies categorized as "Internet Companies."[8]

iContact's Customer Service and Tech Support won the 2011 International Customer Management Institute's (ICMI) Global Call Center of the Year Award.[9]

In early 2012, iContact is acquired by Vocus, Inc. for approximately $89.6 million in cash and 401,672 shares of Vocus common stock.[10]
