IBN7 (Indian Broadcast Network) is a Hindi news television channel in India owned by IBN18 Broadcast Limited, a subsidiary of Network 18 Ltd. The channel is backed by a strong workforce of news professionals in India and is led by Padma Shri Rajdeep Sardesai.[1] The channel also boasts some of the leading journalists and an editorial team that has names like Rajdeep Sardesai,Sanjeev Paliwal, Richa Anirudh, and MK Jha.
Recently, the Managing-Editor of IBN7 Ashutosh has left the group to join Aam Aadmi Party.
IBN7 has launched several initiatives like IBN7 Diamond States Awards, IBN7 Super Idols, Zindagi LIVE Awards, Citizen Journalist Awards, Young Indian Leaders, Guru Shishya Awards etc.
History
IBN7 was launched on 15 August 2006. With a tag line of ‘khabar, har keemat par’, the channel was the outcome of a merger between Channel 7 and CNN. The channel got a new name – IBN7.[2] The channel has set its bureaus in every state capital and broadcasting centres in Delhi and Mumbai, also gets news from other channels of Network18 - such as political news from CNN-IBN, business news from CNBC-TV18, and the consumer angle from CNBC Awaaz. The year 2006-07, the company entered the Hindi news space by acquiring a strategic stake in the holding company of the erstwhile Channel 7.[3]
Personalities
Raghav Bahl
Raghav Bahl is the Controlling Shareholder and Managing Director of Network18. Raghav began his career as a management consultant with A.F. Ferguson & Co. followed by a stint with American Express Bank before he launched TV18, his production house. Winner of the Sanskriti Award for Journalism in 1994, he has over 24 years of experience in television and journalism. He founded TV18 (now Network18 Group) in the year 1993.[4]
Raghav was hailed as a Global Leader of Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum.[5] He was also selected by Ernst & Young as 'Entrepreneur of The Year (2007) for Business Transformation'.[6] Raghav has been awarded the AIMA award for the Media Person of the Year in 2011 and BMA recognized him as the ‘Entrepreneur of The Year (2011). He has been conferred with the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (D.Phil), Honoris Causa by Amity University, Uttar Pradesh (2011).[7]
Raghav has been instrumental in crafting successful Joint Ventures with media giants like CNBC, NBC Universal, Viacom, Time Warner, Forbes, A&E Networks and GS Homeshopping (Korea).[8]
An Economics graduate from St. Stephens College, he has done his MBA from the University of Delhi.
Raghav has also authored the book ‘S U P E R P O W E R? The Amazing Race Between China’s Hare and India’s Tortoise’.[9]
Rajdeep Sardesai
Rajdeep Sardesai is the Editor-in-Chief, IBN Network that includes CNN-IBN, IBN7 and IBN-Lokmat. He comes with over 22 years of journalistic experience, during which he has covered major national and international stories, specialising in national politics. Prior to setting up the IBN network, he was the Managing Editor of both NDTV 24X7 and NDTV India and was responsible for overseeing the news policy for both the channels.[10] He has also worked with The Times of India for six years and was the city editor of its Mumbai edition at the age of 26. He has won numerous awards for journalistic excellence, including the prestigious Padma Shri in 2008, the International Broadcasters Award for coverage of the 2002 Gujarat riots and the Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Award for 2007.[11]
His flagship show on CNN-IBN, India at 9, was awarded the Best News Show at the Asian Television Awards, 2010. He has been ‘News Anchor of the Year’ at the Indian Television Academy for seven of the last eight years. He has also been the President of the Editors Guild of India, the only television journalist to hold the post and was chosen a Global leader of Tomorrow by the World Economic Forum in 2000. An alumnus of St Xavier's College, Mumbai, he has done his Masters and LLB from Oxford University, and has also played first class cricket for the Oxford University team. He has contributed to several books and writes a fortnightly column that appears in several newspapers.[12]
Sanjeev Paliwal
Sanjeev Paliwal is the Executive Editor with IBN7.[13] He is a veteran in TV Journalism with over 17 years of experience. He was instrumental in launching 4 news channels (BITV, AAJ TAK, DD NEWS & IBN7). He has produced events like Gujarat earthquake, 9/11 attack, Afghan war, Iraq war, attack on Indian parliament, inauguration of Srinagar-Muzaffarabad bus service, attack on Ram Janmabhoomi, Varanasi bomb blast, etc. He launched and anchored India's best breakfast show in the country SUBAH SAVERE Doordarshan in 1999. When AAJ TAK was launched, he presented the channel's morning show for around three years. His magical moment was when in May 2004 after General Elections Sonia Gandhi refused to become Prime Minister of India.[14]
At IBN7, besides leading a team of news professionals to innovate new ideas to present news, Sanjeev also conceptualizes talk shows like Mudda and Zindagi LIVE. He also presents news Live on Prime Time and has anchored the channels award shows like Diamond State Awards, Citizen Journalist Awards and many more. Before switching over to television, he worked in the print medium for five years including major Hindi dailies like Dainik Jagran, Amar Ujala and Aaj between 1989 and 1994. He is a Graduate having studied Political Science, Economics and Maths.
Sandeep Chaudhary
Sandeep began his journey into this unknown area with documentary film making. He graduated from the prestigious Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) in Economics (Hons) and did his Masters from Delhi University. The anchor of the much popular current affairs show, Mudda, on IBN7, the talk show that made Sandeep Chaudhary famous. He has conducted most of his shows live, for the last several years, without a single break. For someone who could not make it to the civil services, journalism seemed to be the next best thing to go for. Be it business, national happenings, international developments, economics or anything, Sandeep has the spirit to handle it with ease.[15]
Samir Abbas
Samir Abbas’s association with IBN7 has been for the past 8 years. He is currently the Associate Executive Producer & Prime-time Anchor.[16]
His journey with journalism began 12 years ago when he joined JAIN T.V. in 2001 as a News Anchor & Reporter. After this he worked with Aaj Ki Baat (aired on Star Plus & Star News Channel) and in Chunav Ki Baat (on DD News) as a team member of Rajat Sharma's Independent News Services and a reporter.
With the formation of India TV Samir got the opportunity to polish his Anchoring skills as well. After nearly a two-year experience with India TV, he moved to be a part of Channel 7 (now IBN7) in Feb 2005.[17]
Smita Sharma
Smita Sharma is an Associate Foreign Editor/Prime Time Anchor with IBN7. She has been associated with the channel since its launch in 2005. She has worked with ANI-Reuters and National Broadcaster Doordarshan News earlier.[18]
Over the last nine years, Smita has actively reported on National Political developments and Foreign Policy & International Affairs. She covers Jammu and Kashmir affairs closely.
Smita has been nominated for the prestigious John Doherty Fellowship in Australia and Edward R Murrow Exchange Program in the United States. She is fluent in English, Hindi, Bengali and Nepali.
Richa Anirudh
Richa Anirudh is a prime time Indian news anchor for IBN7. Richa, as a host of Zindagi Live – the famed emotion filled talk show which brings to surface the victims of circumstances who challenged the adversities and conquered at the end, has given a new mode of telling real stories to the viewers.
The year of 2004 introduced a milestone to Richa Anirudh when she was pointed out as one of the 12 Best Anchors of the Indian News Channels of the generation next by Pitch magazine. Her Show Zindagi Live on IBN7 has four times won the best talk show award by indiantelevision.com and twice has won the Laadli Media Award for gender sensitivity given by UNFPA.[19] In the successive year of 2005, another beguiling episode entered Richa’s life when she was conferred with “Best Anchor’s Award” by Ekta Mission. Richa Anirudh truly is an ideal example of a successful woman who never looks back, and endeavors to create history on her own, in her own buoyant manner.[20][21]
Richa has recently won Aadhi Abadi Women Achievers Awards 2012.[22]
Rajeev Masand
Rajeev Masand is an Indian film critic and entertainment reporter for IBN7. He has had an accomplished media career spanning 16 years covering the Indian entertainment industry. A graduate from Mumbai University, Rajeev started reporting at the age of 16 at The Times of India. He rose fast, and the milestones along the way include several leadership positions such as Assistant Editor at The Indian Express, Special Correspondent and Film Critic at STAR News, and Entertainment Editor and Film Critic at CNN-IBN. Rajeev is perhaps the only entertainment journalist in the country to have had 2 eponymous film shows – Masand Ki Pasand (on Star News) and Rajeev Masand Ki Pasand (currently on IBN7) – which redefined the rules of how a TV film critic connects to his audience.[23][24][25]

Zindagi LIVE is an award-winning talk show that brings forth the inspiring stories of ordinary people, who have battled adversities and chosen life over defeat. Citizen Journalist

Gonda CMO Adduction Case
IBN7 reporter on the Gonda CMO abduction case which directly resulted in the main accused Vinod Kumar Singh, Uttar Pradesh minister for revenue & rehabilitation, resigning from his post.[52][53]
Gehlot Story
IBN7 did an exclusive story on the Rajasthan Chief Minister’s alleged involvement in illegal allotment of sandstone mines to his relatives and near & dear ones. This issue resonated in parliament, forcing Chief Minister himself to set an enquiry to probe the matter.[54][55]
UPSC Controversy
IBN7 took up the issue of the controversial Union Public Service Commission Notification making proficiency in English a requirement for IAS aspirants. The extensive coverage of the subject sparked a huge national debate, following which many other channels also picked up the story.[56][57]
Illegal Construction
In the wake of the recent Mumbai building collapse incident that resulted in at least 74 deaths, IBN7 did an exclusive story, exposing rampant illegal construction going on in a transit camp area meant for the homeless and refugees. As a result of which 37 policemen involved got suspended & a case got registered against them for dereliction of duty.[58][59]
Darinde
IBN7 had travelled to the remotest corners of the state such as Kanker, Balod and Dhamtari all predominantly tribal districts & highlighted the pitiable condition of the state’s education system. An intensive & in depth investigation of the districts of North Bastar exposed the trauma & plight of adivasi students living there. IBN7 documented first-person accounts of students who have been shunned and punished for being raped.[60][61]
New Initiatives
On December 16, India has been shaken by the brutal gang-rape and subsequent death of a young woman in the heart of the nation’s capital. The incident happened because the auto driver refused the couple to go to their destination leading which they boarded the bus.
In an attempt to know the nuances of the current scenario, IBN7 launches a campaign called ‘Nai Dilli Banao’. This campaign aims to explore and highlight the loopholes of the system in place.[62]
There are two phases of this campaign. Started in January 2013, the first phase highlights bigger issues of Delhi every fortnight. The 2nd was continued for 15 days from June 14 and highlights Delhi's area wise progress such as community / society parks, water supply, roads etc.[63]

- Rajesh Verma, who was located in Muzaffarnagar planned killed by unknown people during news coverage on Muzaffarnagar riots.

Zindagi LIVE Awards
Zindagi Live Awards is a salute to the undying hope and tenacity of those who refuse to give-in to adversities. The awards have derived their inspiration from 'Zindagi Live', an award winning talk show that features on IBN7. These awards are given to people who have put up a brave fight in the face of extreme circumstances and choose to embrace the zeal of life. Citizen Journalist Awards
Promoting the principle of Inclusive Journalism, the Citizen Journalist Awards honour individuals who are determined to uncover the truth, expose injustice, change the system, and in the process, help create a better India for themselves and their countrymen.[67][68]
Super Idols
Super Idols Awards are about honoring achievers with special abilities who have soared beyond physical challenges and conventional barriers to realize their chosen dreams. These are stories, which will truly inspire you while making you look at life with an appreciative paradigm. Super Idols Awards are conferred across spheres like Art, Culture & Entertainment, Business & Self Achievers, Education, National Service & Rehabilitation, Sports and Lifetime Achievement.[69][70]
