Hyperlioceras is an extinct genus from a well-known class of fossil cephalopods, the ammonites. It lived during the Jurassic Period,[1] which lasted from approximately 200 to 145 million years ago.

Biostratigraphic significance

The International Commission on Stratigraphy (ICS) has assigned the extinction of First Appearance Datum of Hyperlioceras mundum, Hyperlioceras furcatum, Braunsina aspera, and Braunsina elegantula as the defining biological marker for the start of the Bajocian Stage of the Jurassic, 170.3 ± 1.4 million years ago.
