Hutchings High School (or HHS) is a co-educational school and junior college in Pune, Maharashtra, India, with classes from pre-nursery up to class 12. It is an Anglo-Indian school registered since 1879. The school is affiliated to the Indian Certificate of Secondary Education board.It was started by Miss Emily Hutchings.
History
The history of Hutchings turns back more than 135 years to the year 1879 AD, when the humble foundations of this magnificent institution were laid. It was that Miss Emily Hutchings arrived in Pune. She was a zealous missionary with a mission, a lady with a heart of gold, always compassionate and sensitive towards the needy.
Her noble and caring nature gave birth to a small school of only 25 needy, underprivileged girls. Here, under a small tree started the school, which eventually rose in stature and acclaim and now proudly stands as the widely known "Hutchings High School & Junior College!"
Miss Hutchings ran the school courageously for some time but lack of funds brought matters to a standstill. Then the Bishop of The Methodist Church, Bishop William Taylor came to the aid of Miss Hutchings and provided her with the much needed funds from the Methodist Church. Thereafter, the church became the main support for this cause and thus the school started growing in its fold.
Miss Emily Hutchings’ sensitive and loving nature touched many lives especially those of her students and co-workers and she was fondly called "Mama Hutchings". The lady had now acquired a ‘Family’, a tradition followed reverently in the school, till date.
Miss Hutchings died on 15 April 15, 1942 at the age of 92.
Thus, it was that from those modest beginnings Hutchings High School rose in stature and acclaim to the wonderful institution that stands today. These passing years have seen many Principals and Administrators who have contributed enormously in making the school what it is at present.[1]
Sport
The school has a football and basketball team.There many activities held every Friday like dance,choir,chess,brain vita,scrabble, sports, Social-enviornment,maths club, computer club,English club,debate club, Spell bee,etc.[2]
