Hurworth School is an academy school situated in Hurworth-on-Tees located on Croft Road in the borough of Darlington, England.

Admissions

The school caters for around 650 students aged 11-16. In 2011 98% of students achieved 5 or more A*-C grades in their GCSEs, which was the highest in the schools history.

History

In 1998, it started a new scheme to motivate disengaged male pupils by encouraging competition for grades and using a system known as assertive mentoring.

In July 2003, the school entered into the first-ever federation between schools with itself and Eastbourne Comprehensive School in Darlington (now an Academy) with plans to join the two as one academy before this idea fizzled out in March 2006. On 1 April 2011, Hurworth School became an academy separately.

In 2007 the school was featured in the national press when high-achieving Year 11 student, Kayleigh Baker was barred from attending the end of year prom for refusing to take part in after-school revision classes.[1]

Close by is Rockliffe Park, a football training ground.
